    Hi,

I have a faulty wheel speed sensor wiring harness on my 08 Golf MK5 (VCDS Electrical Wiring Fault in Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor)

I am trying to trace back the harness back from the wheel arch into the engine bay. Its pretty hard to see where it comes in to the engine bay and goes after that due to being hidden behind components.

Before I start stripping out components (Fluid reservoir etc.) to gain access, does anyone know where it eventually goes to so that I can possibly bell out the wiring? I have a suspicion the speed sensor harness (2 cores) will be included in a much larger harness.

Also, has anyone come across any guides for replacing the speed sensor wiring harness? My fault is definitely the harness and not the sensor.

    Thanks

Common fault on the PQ35 platforms right front up until it was revised in mid 2008 for the 2009 model year, evil to get at so the accepted fix is the so called “overlay” method using the VAG repair harness 1K0 927 903 A which costs £42.08 BUT you need to take care extracting the pins from the multiplig and soldering is not recommended.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. This sounds like what I am after. Apologies if I have totally misunderstood you, if I am understanding you correctly the cores of the ABS/speed sensor harness go to a multiplug (with other cores from other circuits) within the engine bay? Where is the location of the multiplug? Is it accessible without removing other components?

The 26 point multiplug is on the ABS pump itself which is tight up against the inner wing and a pain to work on. ALL the wiring for the unit goes into the pump through this plug. The positive signal from the sensor at plug position 1 goes as a black wire to position 9 on the multiplug and the negative signal from position 2 at the sensor goes as a brown wire to position 8 of the multiplug. Be aware that the right hand front positive signal is also a black wire to position 5 but is marginally thicker, which is why it does not fail as often.

OK, that's great thanks. Your help is much appreciated. I shall have a look tonight. Do you have a wiring diagram of where you got the pinouts on the multiplug? Out of interest, I guess the most likely point of failure of the harness would be the part within the wheel arch? (i.e between the wheel arch grommet to the sensor as its open to the elements/knocks etc.) I'm wondering if its worthwhile cutting and splicing at this point first (I have a spare 2 pin connector plug for the sensor itself with a short flying lead) to avoid trying to get access to the ABS pump multi-plug? Or is it generally the latter half (within the engine bay) of the harness that fails? Any idea what sort of resistance I should be measuring?
Of course would be neater and more professional to go all the way back to the multi plug.

The pin numbers are moulded into the plug but they are tiny digits. I am assuming the car has the basic system without TCS and EDL.

A is the pump, B is the plug
