Total newbie question

Hi all. Now I’ve had my A6 for a couple of days (loving it by the way) I’ve seen a few people talking about VCDS. What is this? Is it something a dealer has or can anyone get it? If so where do you get it? How does it connect to the car? Etc...

Hi. Its diagnostic software, it plugs into the car to diagnose faults, modify settings, and perform service functions. The full version is expensive but you can get a version with limited functionality. It's called lite and can be downloaded you can get the connecting lead, laptop to car, from eBay with a software cd for around £10-£20. Have a look at rosstec web site for download. Enjoy... Or stay legit and use a much more user friendly thing like obd11. A nice, small and simple bt dongle that does even more for waaaaay less (and knows how to deal with new cars that VCDS is now struggling with)...
