Hi Topcat68, You can remove the deflector entirely but that may not solve your issue. Ive a 2015 RS6 which had this dreaded leak. I tried many different things but I finally fixed it. What worked for me was removing the wind deflector, then applying a heavy coat of Tek7 sealant in the channel that the wind rubber sits into. Also ensuring that the excess fabric from the wind deflector folds inwards not outwards. I also went a bought a new wind deflector from Audi for €300. It's difficult to know if it was the sealant or the new deflector that solved it but either way my car is now back to being a car rather than a bath!

I took some photo's when I pulled out my old deflector and you can see just how much water was gathering on the inner channel and the channel that the rubber from deflector sits in. Hopefully this helps you out!

I have a 2013 Allroad with the leak - but it's at the rear of the sunroof so the water runs into both the rear footwell and the edge of the luggage compartment behind the panels.

I have removed the headliner (Gee, what an effort) and can see the water appearing ABOVE the drain pipe.

Does anyone know how to remove the rear / fixed glass panel to get to the rear drain area? I have the ERWin manual and it says 4 screws and it just lifts out. Have removed the 4 screws, the glass is loose, but it won't lift up along the rear edge. The front edge will lift as far as it can until it won't get past the front / movable piece.

Do I have to remove the movable panel 1st? That's not what the manual says.

    Any ideas?

Adding to the end of this really helpful thread to keep it all in one place.

My B9 S4 has the dreaded sunroof leak - its not the drains so guessing its the same everyone else has experienced with the cassette itself. I actually don't care about having a working sunroof, but I do care about not having wet carpets - is there any reason I couldn't just pull the fuse for the sunroof and then use some kind of sealant from the outside to seal the whole thing shut?

Theoretically I suppose so, but it will have to take movement of the car and thermal cycles. If it peeled later you might have issues (thinking of bathroom silicone failing), and there's lots of soft surfaces... It'll be a nightmare to clean up if it doesn't work

Hi, I have a 2016 bitdi with the roof, which started leaking after I gave it a power wash. Took it to Audi for a sun roof service - which they declined , 'saying the tub of grease had expired its use by date!'

So I followed the below (which was from earlier mentioned in this thread)

thoroughly clean ALL sunroof components, especially seals, drain channels and mating surfaces including wind deflector base mounting seal, with isopropyl alcohol, then re-grease seals with Audi OEM grease or Krytox GPL 205G2 grease. (5g pot from ebay was enough for me). use an old toothbrush to get into the front seal/recess, and along the underside of the wind deflector rubber seal/mount.

Following the above - mine has now stopped leaking, was previously visible from drips down by the bonnet release and the same area on the passenger side.

i check the area out every month and add / wipe the grease area with a small paint brush to keep the area covered.

If doing this i would go for either Sikaflex 291 or 591.

Just checked and I use. Isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a cloth to clean the surface (took mine to a shopping centre under cover carpark, as mine is parked under trees). Lucas white lithium grease nlgi #2 for the inside runners and prounol silicone grease for the seal, which I do each month. The main runner area i remove any bits , dirt and add a bit more replacement white grease, but just enough to cover . That has stopped my leak, for the time being. Have a tissue under the door bonnet release as a early warning sign.
