Just wondering if anyone can confirm the Glyco part number for the standard size Conrod shell bearings for the BXE engine?

    Thanks in advance

Incorrect for the Passat as a proper oil pressure test needs carrying out using a pressure gauge at 2000 rpm and with the oil at around 80 degrees C; the pressure must be at least 2 bar.
The oil pressure sensors I believe are inadequate. Any low pressure warnings do not activate until the engine is at 2000 revs. The fact that the oil can goes off on the dash after starting is no guarantee of sufficient oil pressure on these cars and it will tell you with a red "Stop Low Oil Pressure" if it is not. Some engine damage may have already occurred by then depending on how fast you are going / how much load is on the engine when it triggers and how quickly you can get to an engine off situation.

i certainly disagree with your what your saying fitting shell bearing to a worn crankshaft is shear folly theres a cushion of oil within these shell bearins and as nothing wears round including crankshafts its sheer madness to go down that road

Who said the crankshaft would be worn? You are assuming that Mickeybo, when it might not be.

Passat crankshafts are fairly robust (forged?) and the tolerances (clearances) between bearings and journals for oil are pretty generous compared to some others. Before putting in replacement shell bearings, the crank journals should be checked for damage or excessive wear before going ahead with standard shell bearing replacement. The crank may have to be reground and the next size bearings put in, or the crank even replaced if a bearing has spun and caused significant damage. Crasher on here is in the trade and therefore one of the more experienced to answer this but from the half dozen VAG cars that I have had the pleasure to do or assist with bearing work, only 1 needed crank work and non standard bearings. The other 5 had exceptionally good crank journals for their respective mileages and within spec for standard shell only replacement. One had no visible marks at all, and the others needed a very minor polish.

I am about to do mine at 230k so we'll see how worn the crank is after 15 years.

I have rebuilt hundreds of VAG engines and crank wear is very rare. If I do have one ground I won’t go further than 0.25mm and I also have them black nitrided after as when I didn’t I experienced a couple of failures.
