Hi guys, just took car in for second service, 38,000 miles, and was advised to get the above filters replaced. Slightly surprised to be told that they are not included within the service cost and would therefore be £160-ish additional.
Does this sound right to you?
    Thanks

That's a huge price for less than an hours work about £30 parts. If its recommended why didn't they do it?

Hi which service are you having done minor ( odd number) or major (even number) ? If major then fuel filter should be included not sure about the pollen, would do the pollen yourself cheap enough to get online. This is assuming its over 3 years old, if its under 3 years then they charge for everything, a bit of a con. If under 3 years then I would ask for a discount for taking it to them rather than giving the work to another dealer.

Is it VW Fixed Price Servicing: Fixed Price Car Servicing | Volkswagen UK?

That £160 is very similar to the difference between Minor and Major Service. Minor service should include pollen filter "if needed". The extra items on Major Service are:

    1. Replace air filter
    2. Spark plugs (petrol engine) or fuel filter (diesel engine)
    3. Remove wheels and check brakes
    4. Check/adjust tension of all drive belts
    5. Check gearbox oil level
    6. Check final drive oil level
    7. Volkswagen stamp in service book.
    8. (And addition of "Suspension" to vehicle inspection list)

So if you're getting all of those the price is about right. The only ones you'd easily detect had been done for your money though are the air and fuel filter, plus maybe the cost of the oils that they kindly added as well.

Thanks for replies. It’s the 2nd service (car is 2yrs old) so oil and inspection. I called and they said as it’s inspection service filters not included. I’ll see what boxes they’ve ticked on service sheet when I collect to see what they’ve done.

Hi As it's only 2 years old that's why they are charging the extra. The fixed price servicing is after 3 years, had my first at 2 years so only really an oil change and it was just over £300 with a discount. Right rip off until it's 3 years old, only 12 months to go !!!!!!!!!
if you intend keeping it after its 3 look into getting a service package.

Will definitely look into service package next time. Total cost was £819 for service, s-tronic oil change, air con service, fuel and pollen filters. Strangely when I went to collect and pay the girl on service desk said they’d given some discount as I was paying a lot (I’d asked for discount when booking service and was told ‘no’). Anyway got home and got calculator out and they’d reduced price by £150 so basically I didn’t pay extra for additional filters! Whilst they are still no doubt making a handsome profit at least this gesture made the bill a little easier to swallow.
