    Hi all,

The problem I have is sourcing a replacement Coolant Temp Sensor/ Sender.

A local (Stoke on Trent) parts supplier has struggled to find the part for me as they can only find green and blue 4 pin units in the aftersales parts listings, whereas mine is black and two pin.

I've searched the forum and found a few postings and replies regarding blue and green 4 pin sensor units but none mentioning a black 2 pin unit.

The parts supplier I use have said that they think that the part (number on it is 269416) is probably from a short supply run by VW that was so short that including it in aftersales parts service would not be economical. The supplier said the sensor may have been manufactured for VW by a company called (I think) ELL or EL.

Curiously when I took the sensor out to have a look at it I ran the car for 10 miles or so without it being e;ectrically connected and the temp gauge worked fine, in fact it showed a slightly lower temp than normal. So I'm wondering what the sensor does. Is it just engine management?

Anyone got any ideas where I can get the sensor?

    Thanks
    BLE

    Sorted.

GSF stock it part number 929VG0220 @ £ 10.25+vat. and postage. Black or Grey coloured rather than green or blue.

Not on their webshop though so you'd have to call to order it.

Unusual though as when put through a search my chassis and reg no. show that the green coloured sensor is the correct one.

Thanks for this post. I had the identical prooblem on my 2000 Audi A4 1.9 PD (115 bhp). Its funny when I quoted the chassis number, the audi dealers were insistent that I needed a 4-pin green sensor. When I went to replace it, it was also 2-pin and black in colour. Good old GSF to the rescue. I had the same part from them and the problem is solved.
