    Hi,

I can see a map update offered in myaudi.com for 2018. Additionally it seems to suggest I can buy a 2018/2019 map pack. As my car is 3 years old my garage said they'd extend the updates. This doesnt seem to happened.

When I try to download the 2018 pack via my Windows 10 laptop, it wants to open a file type .jnlp. Does anybody know what app I need to use to open it.

    TIA.
    Andy

Use Internet explorer. I had issues with chrome and Firefox. Make sure you have the latest version of Java installed as well.
The extension is more likely for the traffic updates not the maps.

Your traffic licence will have been extended, even if they describe it as a navigation licence. Only the traffic licence can be extended over the air - the maps have to be bought face to face from the service counter at the dealership.

See this thread on this forum for details:

No Valid Licence for Navigation - Message on Screen - Buy Updates on Tech Pack

I am afraid you don't need to worry about what to do with the jnlp file as the download resulting from processing the file will be rejected by the car.

I got the latest maps to install a few days ago on my 65 plate car but my car is just under 3 years. 34 months almost 35.

Yep. I got a map download in just before its third birthday but now the tap is firmly off.

What they extend is the online Traffic which does expire after 3 years too. Unfortunately the garages and the powers that be seem to have got these things confused so you get a strange answer as the other thread points out.

It's going to cost north of £200 by the time the garage have added labour for one update.

They are pushing CarPlay now so no one really gonna spend money on map updates.
However I do think the whole connect thing is flawed. You would have thought they let you subscribe to it for a few quid rather than having to go back to dealer for updates the old fashion/costly way.

The .jnlp is a Java Web start file, if you right click and open with Java it starts a download app.

Using it in the new A7 though CarPlay does not integrate as well as it could. For example in the Virtual Cockpit you couldn't interact with it and it seemed a bit of a let down

Someone will figure out a code or crack for CarPlay on vc.
I’ve seen it work on the TTS so no reason it shouldn’t work with other cars.
