My car has covered 50K miles and has recently developed the following niggly faults in the gearbox:
    1. On engaging reverse (with foot brake applied) after starting the gearbox sometimes goes into safe (backup) mode. If I turn off the engine and restart it and press down really firmly on the brake pedal before selecting reverse then it selects correctly.
    2. When I select drive it sometimes stays in the same gear and will not change up and the only way of curing the problem is to put it into sport mode and then change it back to drive mode when it then works perfectly!
Anybody have any idea what the fault is? It seems to me that it is probably a sensor problem. It happened occaisionally when it had done about 28K miles but seems to be doing it quite often now.
It has not had a gearbox oil or filter change at 40K, could this be the problem. Is this an easy job?
    Thanks in advance

I would start with an oil and filter change first ! You will need vag-com or symilar, because the car must be perfectly level and the ATF should be at 80 Celsius. Its verry important that you dont over/underfill the g'box. As you have been told, i would take it to a dealer, as its a precise opperation. Anyway, the symptoms you describe are sensor related so a diagnostic scan its a must ! Post the fault codes on the forum, when you have them.

Thanks for advice, Inde-tech have advised me that the Quattro Tiptronic box is sealed for life and the oil and filter are not part of the normal service routine. They are going to run it up on thier diagnostics computer so lets hope it misbehaves when they have it!
