Sadly I don't have a handbook so can't specify which one exactly it is.
I have a few issues I wonder if anyone could help with.
I'm onto my 3rd type of MMI interface lead and still can't get anything to connect or be visible.
Firstly I tried an iPod connector to try and connect my 2nd gen iPod classic but it says iPod not supported, so then I got a MMI/female USB lead in the hope I could just connect the iPod or my phone using that but had the same result. Finally I tried an MMI to Micro USB to try and connect my phone and still nothing.
They are all genuine Audi leads but get varying messages like the one above or in the case of the latest lead, it says incorrect lead in use or something.
I'm at a bit of a loss. Ideally I wanted to connect the iPod so I had access to my music, but when that didn't work I thought I could use a phone to store music and connect that.
The other thing bugging me at the moment is trying to upload my phone contacts to the car. It's a Galaxy S7 and it connected to the MMI via bluetooth and makes and receives calls fine but just no phone book.
I will probably have more questions as time goes on!
Thanks
JB
Hi,
Important first question. Do you have a facelift car or a pre-facelift car? On facelift cars, the AMI gives you two USB ports in the centre armrest, and on pre-facelift you get a single AMI port (not a regular USB). I can't get my old iPod Classic to work in my facelift car - the iPod screen shows the Audi rings, but the car never fully initialises the connection. I imagine the iPod is just too old for my 2016 car to communicate with.
Assuming you have a pre-facelift, your iPod ought to work - mine did on my 2012 pre-facelift. The trick is in getting the correct cable. Audi made different spec Apple cables with the 30-pin Apple connector - the way to tell them apart is by the coloured collar at the AMI plug end. You can get black, blue and red collar cables with the Apple 30-pin connector. Black collar are for the MMI 2G setup so not suitable. Blue and Red are for 3G / 3G+, with red supporting video function and blue not. If you have an older iPod, the red cable probably won't work as it's a later spec, but the blue cable most likely will (and did in my 2012 car). I still have the cable - if you're in the Stoke area at any point you're welcome to try it.
Cheers!
