    Hi Folks,

I'm trying to sort a few long term issues with the A6 and the main one being that I have oil leaking out of the ASV (there's a debate on what this is actually called - ASV (Anti Shudder Valve) / Air control flap / throttle body, I'm going for the ASV term!)

I have no error codes coming up on (Rosstech) scans. The car however is a bit lumpy on start up which is a bit rough and it still yoyos / kangaroos between 1200-2000 in 2nd / 3rd.

So I decided to strip it last night and I'm sorry there are no pics but the car had to be running for the daily commute this morning!

It is very very easy to remove via 3x T30 torx and a c clip on the intake (the Siemens original version).

I unscrewed the casing (4x T20 torx) once out the car and a surprisingly large (cup sized) amount of oil came out very black and dirty.

I cleaned it out and inspected. I was in a way dissappointed to see everything look unworn on the cogs etc in fact as new as they could (car is at 142k)!

My theory was that the cogs would have been stripped creating some of the issues I see day to day as mentioned above.

If this was the case (or if yours is worn) there are plenty of repair kits:

    Drosselklappe Reparatur Kit für VW Audi Seat Skoda TDI 1.4 1.9 2.0 2.5 2.7 3.0 4 4260446392039 | eBay

So where do I go from here? I re-assembled and everything started and ran ok and as normal but no improvement as such.

I found another thread for a passat online with the same issue and annoyingly can no longer find the link.
This person thought that air / oil was blowing past a seal on the flap on the asv and pressurizing the motor casing unit if that's the case with mine I don't think its repairable and will need replaced!

I don't have any engine management light(s) on, if you do and there is a ASV related fault code then the units definitely toast, a few people seem to mention i can run without electrical issue (as mine appears to have) for a while even full of oil!!!

Any help on what to do next would be good, should I replace the Asv or is there something more ominous at play!

Can you take some pics with the problem? This could help us understand better where is the leaking and what you can do to stop it.

You should change the whole unit, not only the electronic part. This fixes the problem since oil entered there through the gasket of the part, not from outside of it. I changed mine since my car blew black smoke and no errors on it with vcds. I know you want to take it in a cheaper way, but from my experience when you try this way, you get more expensive.

I do get that best I’m at so far is £160 at ECP, I don’t think there’s an option to replace only the electronics anyway?!
Which gasket are you referring to that oil has entered the unit - the gasket of the assembly onto the EGR, the intake gasket, the flap rod gasket if there is one or something else?

I didn’t open my old unit after dismantle but it seems like the flap that opens and closes is commanded by ecu through electronic part and somewhere between the flap and the electronic part must be a gasket of some kind that permited oil to enter.
