Another thread sparked the birth of this thread.

It's a major pet peeve I have, regarding etiquette of petrol stations.

I am starting my personal list of things to be included on this list in its inaugural time.

" I, Big_E, believe the following to be the truth, and what I believe all petrol stations should be adhering to, this will minimise the time taken to enter and exit the station. To ease frustration, and increased waiting times. "

Pleas feel free to add comments and extend the list with your own points.

    Rules

    1. When entering a set of pumps, if the one infront of you is free, always drive to that, allowing other drivers to use the one behind you.

    2. Always enter the petrol station, with one pump in mind, do not hog the entry lanes for both sides of the pump as you wait and guess who'll drive off first.

    3. Always go to the pump which complies with rules 1 and 2, and use that side regardless of what side your cap is on. Guess what the petrol line WILL STRETCH!

    4. When pulling up to a pump, please do not stop .5m away from the pump, thus cutting off the gap in between for passing cars, that's inconsiderate, and increases the risk or a scrape or a later to be broke wing mirror.

    5. Before filling with your fuel, ensure you have all payment method's as accepted by the garage on your persons, this will cut the time down your at the pump and not using is. We don't want to wait and see you faffing about for your wallet, or blagging £20 sheets of the Mrs.

    6. Once in the petrol station to pay, please ensure you've chosen a window to go to, yet again as described in Rule 2, this will cut the overall times down, please be considerate.

    7. Please ensure you have collected your drinks, crisps or any other items, before joining a que. I do not wish to stand behind you, whilst your dart off to collect a can of Coke. This increased my waiting time.

    8. As described in Rule 5, ensure you payment method is available at the time you enter the window space to pay, don't suddenly pat all your pockets and check your inside coat in a quick panic attack thinking you've lost your wallet. If you were more prepared this would not happen, yet again inconsiderate and adds to waiting time.

    9. Please, please, please ensure you know your Pump number before entering the payment station, it's ******* right annoying watching you lean over, stand on tip toes and generally try and see "round a car " to spot your number. Also pointing and saying "That one, the blue BMW " Does NOT help.

    10. The Final note I would like to add, would be to ask you once you get back to your vehicle, you get in and drive off. Do not decide to inspect your paintwork, do not start to remove a jacket from the booth, or indeed check your children / sunglasses and Tom Tom are all O.K. Get in the car and drive.

I request that this list be initially sent to ever ******* petrol station in the UK. Thus resulting in stress free filling up.

    Please feel free to add...

    1) When at a pay@pump at Tesco - why pay at Kiosk? Always wondered that.... Pay@pump saves 2 or 3 minutes if all you want is fuel....

I can't add any others - most are covered above in detail. I expect I annoy people when I open the boot first at the pump and dig around for my bottle of Millers. Have to measure out that stuff accordingly and get it in the tank before the diesel.

    11. Do not spend 5 minutes re-arranging the contents of your handbag once you get back in the car.

I make a point of filling up of an evening when it's quiet!

    Rules

    1. When entering a set of pumps, if the one infront of you is free, always drive to that, allowing other drivers to use the one behind you.

Why do people not think and do this???

    2. Always enter the petrol station, with one pump in mind, do not hog the entry lanes for both sides of the pump as you wait and guess who'll drive off first.

I agree... pick a pump and queue.... UNLESS.. its a really quiet and you are not holding anyone up... but if its quiet there should be a pump free...

    3. Always go to the pump which complies with rules 1 and 2, and use that side regardless of what side your cap is on. Guess what the petrol line WILL STRETCH!

Why do "idoits" stop and reverse into the bays?? casuing issues then when trying to leave... i think some people just dont expect the pumps to stretch!!
I ALWAYS aim for a pump on the near side... as my fuel cap is on the offside... i find it easier to read the matrix board as your not standing in the tiny gap between your car and your pump... plus.. it appears that EVERYONE goes to the pumps on the offside as most fuel caps are on the right...

    4. When pulling up to a pump, please do not stop .5m away from the pump, thus cutting off the gap in between for passing cars, that's inconsiderate, and increases the risk or a scrape or a later to be broke wing mirror.

I always like to get about 5 inches from the kerb... that way no one comes close to my car!!

    5. Before filling with your fuel, ensure you have all payment method's as accepted by the garage on your persons, this will cut the time down your at the pump and not using is. We don't want to wait and see you faffing about for your wallet, or blagging £20 sheets of the Mrs.

simpe process...... shame a lot mess around like looking for payment methods when they get to the front of the queue after been stood there for 10 minutes waiting to be served..

    6. Once in the petrol station to pay, please ensure you've chosen a window to go to, yet again as described in Rule 2, this will cut the overall times down, please be considerate.

    i agree...

    7. Please ensure you have collected your drinks, crisps or any other items, before joining a que. I do not wish to stand behind you, whilst your dart off to collect a can of Coke. This increased my waiting time.

    simple polite rule..

    LOL

    9. Please, please, please ensure you know your Pump number before entering the payment station, it's ******* right annoying watching you lean over, stand on tip toes and generally try and see "round a car " to spot your number. Also pointing and saying "That one, the blue BMW " Does NOT help.

Simple.. i think most people can count to 10.. or even 15..

    10. The Final note I would like to add, would be to ask you once you get back to your vehicle, you get in and drive off. Do not decide to inspect your paintwork, do not start to remove a jacket from the booth, or indeed check your children / sunglasses and Tom Tom are all O.K. Get in the car and drive.

or replace your autochanger with CD's.. top up Oil.. chat with the Mrs or friends... etc etc... lol

I request that this list be initially sent to ever ******* petrol station in the UK. Thus resulting in stress free filling up.

    Please feel free to add...

I think i have added most of my thoughts above....

One other thing that really gets me everytime is people who get out of there car leaving there Radio on full listing to some rubish....

People that drive into Petrol stations the incorrect way against the flow of traffic when the petrol station has no enrty signs!!

i will have a think... im sure there will be more!!

    Rick

    And get off the phone!!

    Also

I will always position my car so that i do not have to stretch the hose. i find this inconvenient and it looks as if you don't know which side your filler cap is on. Plus it reduces the risk of being hit by a car squeezing through the gap that you are now blocking by standing in it.

Maybe the attendants could clean the pump handles more often, so my hands dont smell like a lorry when i've finished filling up, (which is 2/3 times weekly!)

12a - and if someone turns up at the garage not to buy fuel, but biscuits instead, don't park at a pump, park at the seperate parking area away from the pumps.

    Garage rage is spawned
