today while driving down the M6 for 3 hours i found myself looking at other cars and thinking WHY on earth would you buy that car!!

Before i say which car... The only reason i can think of is price.. ie a cheap deal!!

I saw a few Ford Focus Saloons and Vauxhall Vetcra saloons...

In my opinion i dont understand why you would purchase a saloon model in these cars..

    Ie.. The Ford Focus..

New shape as a Hatchback can look a nice ish car and does have a little sporty look about it.. but why on earth would you decide to go for a saloon in that car i ask myself???

    The Vauxhall Vectra..

The hatchback does not look too bad, yes its a reps car or motorway car.. but why would you go for the saloon in this??

Both the above cars look pretty ugly in saloon compared to the hatch, and if anything you are doing your self out of the second hand market and getting a less pratical car...

    Your thoughts please!

I once had a neighbour who had a vauxhall nova saloon which has to be the ugliest car ever made.

Lots of reps go for the saloon models as they can lock things in the boot more securely.
Ex Golf GT TDi 150. Then an Evo 8. Then a Honda S2000. Now an Evo 5 (and a little pug 106)

If VW had made the Bora available in hatchback I would have bought one years ago. I always like the Bora but the Salooniness was just pointless. I just love the flexibility of an estate. Anyone who doesn't like estates is just being silly, for instance, there's hardly any difference between the Golf hatch and Golf estate apart from many more possible uses in the estate. How many hatches can you just throw a bike in the back with the wheels on, or even a sofa. Then again, try getting a bike in a saloon without taking the whole thing apart...

Huweth I thought the Bora hatchback was the Golf

I agree with some of what is said. I prefer the Mondeo in saloon form and the Vectra. However the old Focus saloon looked odd, though I have not seen a new Focus saloon yet, but have seem pictures, and it looks like a smaller version of the new (not out yet) Mondeo saloon.

I despite having a family, tend to like 3 door hatches, take the Astra, the three door or is it a coupe looks fantastic but the five door is a bit dull.

I really like the look of the new Passat and the Jetta, at last VW are making their cars look as good as their Audi counterparts IMHO of course.

I have not had a hatchback now for about three years and know what you mean about the versatility, though the seats fold down in the Pasty height is limited.

Some cars definitely look better in estate form, Legacy, most Beemers maybe even the Pasty .
    One German, Two Italian.
    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

Just an update.... this morning i saw a Renualt Megane Saloon... which made me think... out in the EU Renualt do a Cilo saloon...

now that is a pointless car if i have ever seen one!!!

The estate model of some cars look nice... ie... most of the VAG range.. but an estate MK4 Golf did look a little boring and boxy...
