    Hi there

    It's confusing for me too

I had my last service at 150k
Now car has 158k and saying that

1.next inspection is in 500 miles or 603 days
    2. Next oil change is in 10700 miles or 672 days

Please help me understand what these 2 types do?

I've booked and changed oil every 10k when the car was asking but it seems it's too often
Oil level is at full and I'm the only driver.

    Thanks for your time

Hi Johnro79. It's Audi's way of trying to get you in to their dealership more often. My independent VW Audi garage simply resets the inspection counter every time they do an oil change service, as they do a full inspection then anyway. Changing the oil every 10k is the best preventative maintenance possible, as demonstrated by your current 158k on that engine.

One reminds you that the oil needs changing.
The other is an invitation in so that the Audi dealership can have a good look over the car and find something else to do....perish the thought they could possibly do the latter, whilst doing the former at the same time...!!

Its best to keep things simple. Every 10K oil service. Every 20k miles Inspection service. No calculations required and the car gets good care.

My bitdi never used oil in the time I had it. It was on long life and I changed the oil and filter myself between services.

My car is on the long life schedule, I change the oil every 10k miles with the good stuff and a genuine filter. Costs around £50 for the Castrol oil and £9.50 for the filter plus £20 to the local garage to do it for me (I know the owner, I contribute to the tea fund!).
It will go to Audi for the 19k service to keep the warranty intact.

Unless you pretty much only do long trips and rack up substantial annual mileage I'd personally stay away from the "long life" / let the car decide oil change. This assumes its your own car so you care.

Especially with a high performance engine like the BiTdi.. if you read up on some of the mechanical changes that they made compared to the single turbo V6s a lot was done to manage internal temps - spraying oil into additional places. Gotta believe the oil works quite hard.

Mine is set to fixed oil changes (despite the audi dealership trying to persuade me to switch to "long") - I do quite a few short trips and just don't think its worth damaging the engine / causing unnecessary wear by scrimping on oil changes. In the overall scheme of things an extra oil change is nothing. I think it is asking for changes every 9800 miles...probably rounded down from 9941 miles / 16000km
