    Hey Guys (and Girls),

Last night my beloved polo was completely written off.

Its not so bad tho cos its made me realise that I should be driving its older brother the passat. Im looking at a 1999 VW Passat S 1.9tdi 110 with 100,000 miles on its clock in the local autotrader.

I have never even thought about buying a car around these miles but I have been told and saw that a lot of cars are getting up to the 150,000 miles and over mark.

Pretty impressive, but I would like to ask if there are any tell tale signs to look at in a car of this mileage. E.g Turbo problems, electrics etc etc.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

POLO DEAD WANNA PASSAT aka Mick.

Make sure it hasn't been used by 'Bab's Cabs'
Make sure it has previous MOTs which have mileage on them or some other corroboration. 99,000 is a common figure to clock a taxi back to. Look at the door skins for signs of magnetic taxi signs scratching them, look where a plate may have been mounted at the back, and look where an aerial may have been mounted, look around the shutline of the boot for where one may have been clipped on and left a dull mark, and look at the rubber boot seal where a wire may have been trapped from the aerial, it may leave a depression in the rubber. Also, look in the cubby hole at the bottom of the centre console with a torch, to see if there is a hole at the back where a wire went through.
    Good luck!
