95 audi 80 TDI Drivers lock problem

I have a strange problem with the drivers lock on my 80, which apart from this is great.
If I mistakenly try the handle before unlocking it, the drivers door cannot be opened at all, not even from the inside, all others are ok.the lock button pops up as normal.I have to then open the rear door and operate the mechanism with a special tool (bent coathanger) and the door then operates as normal with no problems.anyone else had this fault.

mine did that and i changed the door lock
if you dont try the handle i take it every thing works fine
thats what mine was doing any way
and you can change the lock without stripping the door panel off to which is even better

yes, it all works as expected when its unlocked first, i take it that its relatively easy to change the lock itself?.

yes its done in the catch you can see on the outside of the door just undo the screws and change it it slips off nice and easy

OK, Its now sorted, ended up taking the lock off and found a small spring
snapped inside that was allowing one of the sliding bars to move incorrectly, replaced
with one from a scrap lock.
