    Hi,

I have a 2001 Golf 1.6 and have recently noticed a problem with the electric windows. For the first 10 minutes after switching the engine on the windows all work fine. However after this time they literally just all stop working entirely - everything else in the car is fine still such as electric sunroof, mirrors etc. If I turn the engine off then restart it (or even just bring the electrics back on without restarting the engine) the windows work again for another 10 minutes. This will happen literally every time I use the car now and it's always after about 10 minutes.

This did coincide with a leak developing from the sunroof which left the floor under the driver seat flooded. After taking the car into my local VW garage they informed me that the leaking water could have damaged the electrics control unit under the floor which has causes the windows to have problems. Replacing the control unit will cost me around £300.

What I am wondering is if this does indeed sound like it could be the cause of the problem and if £300 for a new control unit is the going rate and the only solution. Could the control unit 'fix itself' over time as it dried out or can they be repaired without replacing etc.

Thanks very much for any advice.

i have never heard of the control unit, being placed under the mat on a Golf,on the wiring diagram i have, it is at the back the dash panel. But u have a control unit for the sliding roof which is at the back of the interior light, this is connected to your convenience control unit, there might be some water damage to it and causing a disterbance in ccu
