I have discovered that the glove box light, in my recently aquired 2001 A4 is not working. I have prised the light out and tested the bulb and I have also replaced the bulb, still no go.
I am guessing that it could be the switch that is at fault.
The question is, where do I find it to check it out if there is one at all.
I can see no obvious on/off mechanism in situ and my assumption is, that maybe the glove box light is on all of the time, whilst the side lights are on.
If this is the case, where do I go from here.
All other dash lights are working fine.
It`s not a big problem, just a little irritating, when you are ferreting in your glove box at night and can`t find whatever you keep in your glove box at night, without some sort of illumination.

I also have this same problem in my newly acquired Audi A6 2.5 V6 TDI.

    Wonder what's wrong?

there is no obvious fuse or switch as well.

I prised the casing and the bulb is a good as new.

    How do we fix this?

    Thanks

    Hi,
I did manage to sort mine out. I can only assume that the glovebox on the A4 and A6 are the same.
What you have to do, is open the passenger door. That gives you access to a removable panel, that is located on, what is effectively the end of the dashboard. It is similar to the panel that has to be removed at the opposite end of the dashboard, that gives access to the fuses on an A4.
The panel just prises off and pushes back on.
All should then be revealed. If as mine, there is a little push me, pull you type of device, that dampers the glove box when opened and also makes a connection to turn the glovebox light on. The hinge/elbow type joint on this configeration, is held together with a plastic pin, that through use, just wears out and falls out.
I have replaced this pin, with a reasonably loose fitting cable tie and that has cured the problem. If it is the same as mine, just make sure that if you do use a cable tie, do not make too tight or too loose. You should get the `Jist`
    Regards
    Stonewall

    Ok,
    Sorted! Thanks STONEWALL.

It only took 20 mins to undo 5 normal bolts all size hex 8mm.
3 just at the top edge behind the door and 2 below the door (must be done when the latch door closed)

These 2 bolts are located at the extreme left and right (in other words one near the door and one near the centre console.

Both are at your ankle level if you are sitting on the front passenger seat ,so you need to crouch a bit and can injure your back if you are not careful )

So I would undo these 2 bottom ones first before undoing the top 3 inside the door. Lessons learnt

The problem is not exactly the switch but it seems that someone forgot to reconnect it back as I can see an ipod adapter has been installed by the previous owner.

    So cheers again to STONEWALL!
