3.0TDI Quattro has done 67000 miles and the front begins to judder when I press the brakes when I'm at higher speeds, Audi advised the brakes need changing at a cost of £429 for the front brake pads and discs. Is that a fair price?

That's the price on the website for their "Fixed price servicing".

Personally, I'd go to an indy or even do it yourself if you can. Changing discs and pads is relatively straightforward. Not sure how the electronics work and resetting them etc but someone would probably be able to help.

    Had a quick look.....
Pagid front discs from Eurocarparts are just under £180 for a pair.
Pagid front pads are just over £75.

So parts alone are about £255....possibly less depending on brand, exact model and possibly cheaper at other shops.

£180 or therabouts to fit isn't too bad....approx 3 hours at £60 per hour....it's expensive but it's main dealer so it's not exactly extortionate.

I paid £145 for Pagid front discs and pads for my 3.0 Quattro from Euro's when they had a big discount weekend

Took me and my mate less than 90 minutes to change everything

£429 is a typical dealer price. I would shop around and just use a local garage. Its not as if the discs and pads are stamped with the Audi logo......

No electronics to worry about on the front apart from the wear sensor. The kit came complete with the wear sensor

Only thing to be aware of is some cheaper discs don't have a coating or paint so after a while the hub part looks like a rusty mess. Brakes will still work fine but not aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks for the prompt responses. Is air suspension or ACC something I need to take account of if i go to an Indy?

No those options wont make a difference to the changing of discs. Nothing to re-set on computer.

I changed the fronts and rear pads with Brembos for £115.it's all easy to do yourself providing you have VCDS.

Don't forget to use the current discount code for eurocar parts, it's normally 30% off.

Thought vcds is only needed for rears as you need to retract the calliper/auto handbrake. If you don't do this properly you will crew the calliper.
Fronts should be knock out the pins and get pads out then remove the whole lot and replace.

This is indeed true, I did all for £115. The hardest part of doin' fronts was taking the wheel off.

For info, fronts on 272 BE are Brembo system, rear is Lucas system. it's not totally clear when ordering, especially from Euro CP. The whole job took less than 1.5 hrs. Audi main dealers is a rip off, quoted me over £700 for the same job.
