Swirl flaps

Just about to tackle swirl flap replacement, already done approx 2 years ago. I remember from the last time I refurbed them that inside the manifolds was murder to clean, can anyone suggest the best method for cleaning the carbon build up?? Will soaking in petrol do it?or is there another product that would be better?
