Whilst driving I got the ‘Alternator Fault: battery is not being charged’, got the car towed to a local garage and they identified the crank pulley had worn away, it looks chewed to bits! I've booked it into Audi tomorrow, hopefully it will be covered under the warranty! Any advice welcome...

This was a common failure on on the C6 model. How old is the car how many miles?

Thanks for your prompt response, it’s coming onto five years in September with 65,961 miles on the clock – I have a five year warranty package with it when ordered from new. I did read that it was a common problem with the C6 but have not seen anyone mention anything ref the C7.

I'm assuming the C6 was repaired if within warranty, it would be great if someone could confirm this as I'm quite nervous about the potential costs.

The C6 failures where all out of warranty, the cars were around 8-9 years old from the cases I read about and the failure on my C6. Have to say the pictures of the pulley look identical to my C6 failure. Make sure the dealer takes a look at the fan blades as when the pulley fails it can damage the blades leaving the fan to be unbalanced, which could lead to an early failure.

Thanks for the advise, do you (or anyone else) think Audi may not honour the warranty? What possible excuse could they make?

Has anyone else with a C7 encountered this? If not, maybe it's worth looking at that or asking your dealer as you do not want to get caught out.

Just a quick update, hats off to Audi Bradford, they are repairing the car (as it's still in warranty) but not only that they have given me a courtesy car. Apparently Audi UK only give a courtesy car if your car is under warranty repair inside the first three years. Mine had a five year warranty but I do not get a courtesy car, Audi Bradford kindly stepped in and helped out. It's still not back yet as I also noticed an 'ACC and Brake Guard' error, this has been put down to a faulty control panel that is on order and due to be fixed this week.
