It does help if you include your year/engine/transmission in your autosignature. Am going to guess at a V6 3.0

As you'll know the failure of these won't affect the operation of the car, I've been driving mine for almost 3yrs with 'lower limit not reached' with no side effects in either performance or economy.

Can you just advise what you are actually trying to do? Also use the search facility as 'swirl flaps' have been done to death on here

Sorry it's 2006 2.7 v6 automatic, I've had my swirl flap manifold rebuilt and motors replaced last year. Just I've noticed slight flat spots under low revs eg Torque curve, plus engine management light which bugs me.
I've done alot of research but I want a second options to see the swirl flaps are opening and closing within tolerance range.

Oh, OK. Mines the 3.0 and remapped to 250 so perhaps not noticed the flat spots, as to the MIL I just applied some black marker pen to dash to stop it burning a hole in my retina...it's sailed through 2 MOT's on emissions regardless.

Part of me regret not getting 3.0 as there wouldn't been much mpg different. It still quite nippy but not as before, I'm quite picky so want it done properly unless it's mapped out, but I don't know how strong are these automatic boxes once mapped up. It flew through last mot but had no eml light.

No there would be, in fact with the 10% greater engine size comes a greater than 10% power increase.

Plus even with the MIL on and both flaps out I've managed 970 miles on a single tank!

Have you done the adaptation for the intake runner motor?

    Intake Manifold Runner

    Prerequisites:

    • Ignition ON
    • Engine OFF
    • System voltage at least 11.0 V.

    [Select]
    [01 - Engine]
    [Basic Settings - 04]
    Group 142
    [Go!]
    Activate the Basic Setting.
    [ON/OFF/Next]
Wait until Field 4 shows "ADP. O.K.".
    [Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

This may be slightly different for you engine VCDS will have it in the basic settings drop down menu.

If your not sure which side it is, run the Bank one test and watch the linkage move on the intake runner motor.

Then run the bank 2 test and observe the linkage movement for comparision.

You may have stripped teeth in the motor or a rose joint on the linkage is loose/worn.

The flaps may have a build up on them in one spot stopping the full movement.
