Torque converter disconnect from engine

Hi there, I'm just removing an engine from a 2008 Audi A6 avant TDi (BRE engine) Automatic. I've been told to leave the torque converter connected to the transmission and that there should be an inspection point on the bell housing somewhere that will allow me to rotate the engine and undo each fastener.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct and approximate location of said inspection point? As I've had a damn good look and don't see anything.

yes, this is quite correct. if you leave the convertor on the engine all the oil in it will pour out, the input shaft seal will be ruined and you still need to take the torque convertor off the flex plate to get it back on the box. not sure where the plate is but generally underneath, on the back of the engine or there may just be a rubber bung you remove, but either way have a dig about anjd yee shall find it. when you undo the bolts though, your socket will be pointing to the back of the car, so the hole will be facing backwards as well as the bolts are on the engine side of the flywheel.

Hold on! A BRE engine is 2.0TDi, and these came with the Multitronic gearbox (for automatic cars). These boxes have clutch plates, not a torque converter?

Are you looking for something that doesn't exist?
