    Hi All,

Apologies for another "urgent help" request. We have a 2005 2.0TFSI. Yesterday whilst driving it completely lost all power and cut out - there was no warning that this was going to happen and no warning lights came up on the dash. Restarted the car and it drove fine only to happen again a bit later on - no warning once again.

The urgency is that we are due to drive from London to Dorset tomorrow for the Easter half term and I'm worried about going on the motorway. Getting it booked in and looked at at such short notice is going to be impossible - is there anything I can do/check on the car before our journey?

    Many thanks in advance

    Mike.

Ideally you need a diagnostic check first of all to see if there are any electrical issues then afterwards depending on the outcome of said diagnostic, some manual checking with a smoke tester to check for air leaks etc

I wouldn't be driving the car if I were you, you could end up breaking down completely

Thanks Chris, will look into hiring a car for the week.

I've just noticed there is oil on the drive, this is very recent. Is it an unfortunate coincidence that we also have an oil leak or can it be linked to the car cutting out?

    Thanks again

    Mike

Could be a fuel pump issue. Dont drive on the motorway until it's fixed.

Right - good news! I've got the car jacked up and the scuttle panel off. The oil leak appears to be from a loose sump plug! We've just had the car serviced, so this would make sense - although I shall be reporting this back to the garage who we have been using for years!

Could this cause some sort of oil pressure/vacuum issue that would cause the car to cut out? Fingers crossed this is all linked and I can solve it by simply tightening the sump plug up!

    Thanks

    Mike.

I highly doubt that would cause the car to cut out unless, you ran out of oil and the engine seized.

check around the top of the engine for a plug that may have been disturbed during the service, amm plug, coil packs etc... make sure everything is pushed fully into place.

If there end up being no codes stored, the engine speed sensor is a possibility.
