So confused by this car I'll try to keep this short as possible but I'll give all in know.

BN55ZWF 3.0 tdi quattro a6 avant log book says SE but it has ALL the A line extras badges MMi No light up heater controls manuel seats etc.

Car ran out of fuel while showing 1/4 of a tank. If I keep it above 1/4 it runs fine.

takes a few cranks to start in a morning and It sounds like the main pump runs dry for a few seconds when started.
suspected low pressure pump in tank, made a tool extracted pump and noticed there is only one pump, no jet pump.

Some one has been in there before as the pipes have been snipped and put back on with hose and jublee clips and the cover was missing.
They have done a pretty bad job of what ever they were doing with it.

One of the pipes on top of the cover has been blanked off baldly and there was diesel all over the bottom of the seat

I'm now suspecting this is the wrong pump for the car. i suspect it may even be a petrol one. the part numbers relate to an audi a4/s4

Drivers side (pump side) tank is full to the brim and passenger side is empty

Passenger side had a VDO sender unit 4F0201317
Drivers side a continental top a2c53303459et
    pump section is a2c53044827.

The pump works but there doesn't seem to be fuel getting to the passenger side tank its all going to the drivers tank i believe this should be down to the jet pump but I cant see a jet pump in my system.

I think that's covered it all but its been a long day though

I have the exact same problem with my C6 Allroad 3.0 TDI. Very frustrating to diagnose

I ended up taking it to a mechanic and the latest is that he thinks there is a pipe missing. Maybe yours had the same problem?

I know that the lift pumps for the 3.0 and the 2.0 TDI's are basically the same but the 2.0 TDI's have a blanked off connection from factory

    Any ideas??!

Your lift pump should have a pipe running from it over the saddle in the tank for the drive shaft.

There's a pump at the other end that sends diesel over to the side with the pump in.

    That had failed on mine.
