    Hi All,

I've had the engine management light come up yesterday afternoon.
No EGR symbol or anything else.
I've rung Audi, who want £60 to look at it, and can't do it until next week anyway.

The car runs perfectly, not in limp mode or anything.

I'd appreciate any suggestion, but I'm minded to try and look at VCDS, and clear the fault if possible, as I suspect it's a one off and might not come back.

Anyone with VCDS near Marchester or Warrington could give me a hand?

Otherwise, the car went for the emissions fix in october and is due a service in September, so I could do that (service) instead (they'd have to read the codes anyway I guess!)

    Thank you in advance.

Yes, I've left a MP with Aggie as none of the others seem to have been active on this forum lately.

I'm also considering buying VCDS myself. Might pay for itself in the long run!

Do you know the best place to buy it? (even second hand...)

If Audi want £60 for a scan you'd have covered the costs after five.

Our sponsor NHN (NHN Profile link) deals with all things VCDS, send him a PM for prices

Yes you will need something compatible to Audi which will reset the eml, vcds is not the only equipment to do this many devices are available to do just this and read fault codes.

Admittedly vcds is vag dedicated and can do a lot but if you just want a code read and the eml out many others can do this, why not call an independent garage for a quote? There be half the price.

The trouble is if you have an eml on then there will be a code stored as the ecu has alerted, just erasing that will not rectify the issue as sooner or later the light will come back on.
So ideally you need the code read so you can fix the issue then reset the eml light.

I got mine through Gendan, maybe find one cheaper elsewhere, but good service off them. It paid for itself within a few months and is a great help with being able to run logs, graphing data etc. Good purchase!

Yes, of course I want to read the code and find out what's wring so I can get it sorted. (And for peace of mind, as I'm not very comfortable waiting for a week to find out what's wrong with the car!)

Yes, I was looking at this dongle... Seems to have good feedback. And coudl be used with the missus' Yaris.

Don't want to appear dramatic, just clarifying that if there IS something wrong, I'd rather fix it sooner than later.

And if it needs fixing, an indy will get my money
