Hi folks i require a little help to identify a misfire in my V5 i purchased her about two weeks ago , she is totally standard not been messed with and was running nice , after a day engine light came on checked book it says emissions so i checked for obvious problems and found a split breather pipe so replaced pipe , at this point the engine is running fine with a very slight misfire at low revs but not really noticeable, I then do what i always do when i buy a car is change oil and filter and spark plugs, both were needing done oil fillter looked like it had been in there for a while very damaged , spark plugs didn't look yo pretty so i was feeling hopeful i would see an improvement in the car ..... however i now have a much worse misfire that makes her shake at low revs , i did take her out to see if it would sort its self out but the engine light came on stayed on and when i accelerate gently the light flashes indicating that it may damage the cat .... I have discovered the guilty cylinder through elimination next i would normally change leads but this where i am stuck ..... i don't know where they go as there is no coil pack and no ignition amp ?? so i am led to believe getting info on this car is difficult to say the least.
thank you for your time reading this i hope it makes sense , Grant

Did you use the correct puller to remove the coil packs?

You need either a fault code read to see which coil pack(s) has failed or just fit five new ones. Only fit genuine VW, almost everything else is rubbish. These coil packs often fail after removal on ALL cars with this design, it is such a common problem that we point out to customers that when we do plugs the only way we can be 99% sure you won't get a misfire in a day or so is to fit new coil packs at the same time. The missing 1% is for the odd one or two new VAG genuine coils we get which are FUBAR straight out of the box.

What you should be doing is a fault code read, remember each time you take out the coils you stress them even more. We try never to remove them unless we really have to and we use a special grease on the plug ceramic to prevent stiction.

I have a saying (well more than one), "it's never wiring......except when it is....!" You could still do with getting the codes cleared for future reference.
