    Hi all
Have searched on here and seen posts elsewhere but am a little confused as to problem. My boot closes but then fails to fully pull in (softclose) at the end and boot whilst locked is loose i.e. bit of play so not fully closed.I’ve seen various posts for 4L models which seems to suggest there is an actuator spring which sometimes fails on the 4L models, but struggling to find info on the 4M. From what I can see from diagrams there is no actuator under the silver boot lip panel on the 4M models, and the motor appears (perhaps?) to be part of the locking mechanism in the actual boot lid.

Has anyone any experience of this and can help in terms of either temp fix or part to replace? Is it an easy job? Any help appreciated, many thanks.

p.s. Sod’s Law it has started just as we’re due to go away weekend after next, so would like to get sorted if possible before car needs to be loaded up with all our cases etc

VIN if required happy to DM to anyone who can help

You need a diagnostic system, such as VCDS, to even stand a chance of being able to deal with this.

Thanks Crasher, from plenty of further googleing and forum browsing today decided to take the plunge and take off the tailgate panelling on the rear. Turned out to be a snapped plastic round end on the actuator cable (since found it is called a Bowden cable). Have temporarily taped the cable as it was slipping due to missing the snapped rounded end where it seats (good old monster tape!) boot now closes ok again and have ordered a replacement cable from eBay for £18.

Pictures of cable with round end piece circled and my bodge temporary job to put me on for now. Left the cover off for now as those metal clips were a pain to get out of the body (where they remained in the body!)
