    Hi all,

First post here.... I bought a 2006 (06) Golf last year and it had an after market iPod (original gen) connection fitted into the glovebox/back of the stereo. I was told it was fitted by VW. I contacted my local VW to ask what my options were in relation to either converting it, or adding some connection which would allow me to play music from my Galaxy Android phone. He drew blanks, mostly due to the age of the car, and said that VW can't really offer anything in terms of upgrades, unless its a £300+ Bluetooth connection (no thanks).

I tried an adaptor lead from Amazon which connects to the male iPod connection in my car, and then has a USB and AUX/headphone jack end but my car doesn't seem to recognise any device attached to this. Tried a phone and a Sansaclip Mp3 player.

Any suggestions please on how to add (without spending too much money?!) an AUX connection which my car will recognise? Or do I take VWs word that there's nothing can be done? I know lots of people have all sorts of "unofficial" ways of jimmying this sort of thing and I've checked out a couple of youtube videos which show that it can be done on a 2006, but my issue then is whether I feel confident enough to do it myself, or whether my garage can do something with it.

    thanks all
    Clare

I've had the following in my 2004 golf for about 4 years

VW AUX input adaptor interface Golf Mk5 jack RCD300 RCD500 CTVVGX004 Volkswagen | eBay

Highly recommended and fairly cheap way of adding aux. Not a really tricky job if you're handy with a screwdriver! Just a bit fiddly feeding the wire out of the trim, mine comes out into the footwell from the trim just below the gear stick then it's a case of getting a aux extension lead (male to female ends) to get the aux lead up to the dash!
