yes my cambelt went at 75mph on sunday night.
and yes you guessed it, the engine is absolutely,........ well broken.
so yeh, what are my options? do i go and break her for parts which i really dont want to do or do i go and find another engine?
shes a 1.9Tdi passat X reg sport. where would i go to find a replacement engine? she was on 145,000 miles when the cambelt went.

thank so much in advance guys,
    Rob

    Bad news there Rob......

Was the cambelt due for replacement? Depending on the condition and resale values of x reg (2000) Passats.... is it worth replacing the engine?

If the car is otherwise mechanically good, then it possibly is worth getting a replacement engine.

The thing about replacement engines is that you don't always know their history, unless you get a reconditioned unit.

    C'est la vie

yeh thats a good point nick. cheers.
i really dont know. its a tough decision. i might just have to bite the bullet and get another one with a lower milage because by the time i jhave paid for a replacemnt engine, and then had the replacement unit overhauled and labour costs on top i probably could have baught another X reg passat.
    swings and roundabouts....
