I need to change the fuel filter on a 2008 vw golf 1.9tdi bluemotion, I know how to remove the filter and reinstall ect but some people say you need to fill the filter full of fuel and some people say you can prime the filter by turning the several times. But I've also heard that the later mk5s don't prime themselves via the key please help.

Don't need to prime. Just change the filter as the filter housing will be full with diesel already.

Vw had started production on the common rail engine late 2008, since you have the 1.9tdi I'm guessing you have the old pd type so yes you will be able to prime in the key..
