    Hi There

I have had a yellow parking brake warning light on now for more than 14 months with the auto hold and cruise control both not working. When I had the car serviced it was diagnostic read with a clutch position sensor fault, this was replaced and it never solved the problem. When the diagnostic was rerun after new sensor fitted the errors at the bottom were detected and the garage didn't want to fault find the wiring and to be honest I could live without the the cruise and auto hold. All of a sudden after 14 months the yellow warning light is intermittently going off and the cruise control and auto hold started working again and then the warning light comes on and it all fails again. I want to sell the car this year and need to get the problem sorted for an MOT and the light coming on and off has given me hope its not the parking brake module, does this sound like a wiring problem as this is something I can sort myself as the car is not worth enough to get the EPB module replaced?

    Many thanks in advance

Them saying it's a wiring fault shows they're not up to fixing the fault/s. That they're using some other kind of diagnostic reader shows they're not VAG specialists which is the type of garage you need.

VAG indies have either VAS the VW diagnostic tool, or VCDS the generally available tool in use in here too. That will give you a far more comprehensive read of stored faults. And clear any historic faults to ensure you're only seeing what's current.

Northampton's a bit too far for me (unless you want to shell out for petrol money too) so here's a map hopefully suggesting someone a bit more local. Or find a VAG indie. Check: ask them what diagnostic they use?

Just an update for future reads, I sorted the problem out in the end as I found a wiring loom that came down behind the clutch pedal that went to behind the center console that if i tugged it the light went off. Stripped the centre consol out of the car and all trim up to and including the stereo. I found a non VW mobile phone wiring harness which went into the back of the stereo with wires that had just been cut when it had been removed and stuffed under the centre consol around the wire i had been tugging, removed this mass of wires and harness checked all other connections started car and fault had gone and has been ever since. The only problem I know have is when I started the car to check if the fault had gone I didn't connect the passenger air bag warning light back up and now have the airbag fault light that will not go out so will have to take it in to get it switched off. But happy its fixed after so long.

    Glad you got it fixed.

Before I got VCDS I did that forgetting to reconnect the radio surround with Airbag light.
Cost me £20 and a crawl in SE London hot Saturday afternoon shoppers traffic around the
south circular to find a workshop open with VCDS to switch it off. (thanks for that one VW)

Anyway, any VAG indie or someone with VCDS in Northampton will switch that off for you.
Get yourself a VCDS Autoscan while your there. Could be informative
