Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDI PD SE Estate 5dr Diesel Automatic (181 g/km, 130 bhp)

Sorry guys the link doesn't work but it's on autotrader for £1495 with about 130K on the engine with what looks like a tiptronic auto box

    Hi folks and Merry Christmas.
Just seen this Golf which I am considering but a couple of questions.

Is the gearbox the dreaded CVT?

If not is it a reliable box and what are the service schedules on it?

Also how can I confirm it is the 130bhp PD engine.

What should I look for when viewing the car (as this will be my first derv VW.

    Many thanks in advance

The only auto box that caused issues was the early 4 speed one the 5 speed tiptronic is the one to go for. When test driving look out for gear issues as it could be a sign of poor servicing usually cured by a transmission oil change.
The tdi 130 has a engine code of ASZ which should be on a sticker by the spare tyre area.
The estate suffers water ingress in the boot release handle switch, the switch itself is a large metal plate covered by a rubber boot which seizes on its pivoting pin causing in a non functioning switch. Tail gate latches can fail as it did on my own one which I sold 4 years ago which I regretted what's worse I see it every day as the new owner lives nr me.
The tdi 130 pd suffers engine oil leaks from the filler neck oil seals which perish costs about £0.40. Check under the cap for a thick mayonnaise slugs which is a sign of a weeping head gasket or leaking oil cooler. Make sure the cam belt has been replaced as it needs doing every 4 years or 40k miles including water pump as the plastic impellers fail on them. When engine is up to temp make sure the gauge reads 90c steady if its erratic or below that its a sign of a faulty water temperature sensor. When this is faulty this causes over fuelling and a poor mpg. Intermitant stalling issues on these engine are caused by a bad relay 109 when this fails it causes a non start situation. When they start failing the usual sign is the lack of a glow plug warning light when starting from cold.
Driving if there is a miss fire this will be caused by a faulty injector wiring loom done a few of these on high mileage pd engines.

Thanks for the info. I phoned the guy up and I asked when the gearbox was serviced and he didn't know. I also asked how many gears it has and he said he didn't know so just read out to me D432 and then mentioned the manual shift up and down so I guessed it must be the 5 speed tiptronic. He kept answering "everything works as far as I am aware" to questions about how the gearbox performs, aircon, cruise control etc.
He was also unsure of the cambelt change but thought it was done at around 90K (now done 130K so guess change is due).
Also its advertised as "selling for a friend" but he said he had bought it for his 86 year old Dad but couldn't get insurance so selling on.
All this just made me feel uncomfortable and I then just said my thank yous and goodbye.
The guy put me off to be honest I just felt he was hiding something so won't be persuing this any further. Shame coz it does look nice.
