    Hi All,

I have a Golf 2011 1.6 TDI it has decided to put the MIL lamp on and go in to limp home mode with fault code P0408 - 00 logged

After a read round this looks like EGR fault costing between £600 > £1000 to sort out (2 days before Xmas)

Should I remove it and clean it?

    How easy/hard a job is this ?

    Thanks for the helps

Complete waste of time, it won't work and it will take you around 8 hours to find out as it is bolted to the back of the lower block under the turbo and behind the DPF and driveshaft, you have to disconnect the DPF and move it to the left to gain access, doing this in the air is tough, on the floor-nasty! We do loads of these and TPS outlets always stocked 2 each, they sell that many a day. Avoid recon ones like they have a sexually transmitted disease. I have tried ONE aftermarket version from ECP as an experiment as at trade price it JUST made sense but the jury is out, an original Wahle from from ECP is £490 retail and genuine VW £329.54 so to buy aftermarket you would need your cam profile checking... the cheap aftermarket HASS is what we tried but it retails at £9.55 less than genuine so you would still be a knob to do it. Ignore the recon one, the company that makes them is local to me but are an inter_national joke...

Like Crasher says waste of time. I've changed about 50 of these and there complete crap. The solenoid valve packs up. The cam lever bearing seizes. The cam lever pin falls out and if it survives all of that yeah it might get dirty. Buy genuine it's cheaper and you will have a 2 year warranty on the part. Takes me about 4 hours to replace and that's removing the battery the subframe the steering rack the os driveshaft the dpf and that's with a ramp.

That is a mechanically *******ised play on the term of "having your bumps felt" or "needing your bumps feeling"
