    Hello guys.

I was driving home the other day with my 2007 Passat 170hk. Suddenly i get this Oil Pressure Warning light. I stop the car immediately and call AAA. They transported the car to a local mechanic. They called me today and said that the car has no oil pressure and it is likely a pump fail. They also said that there were metal shavings under the top filler cap. So i asked them to drain the oil from the car to look for more metal.

I asked the guy what i should do and he stated that i should not spend any money on repairing the engine because its a gonner!!

Im so frustratet right now. What can i do? Replace the whole engine? It is not easy to find these 170hp passat engine, usually it is most 140hp.

Is my engine gone? How long does it take to replace the oil pump? How much does it cost? Or should i just get a new engine?

Please help me out guys! Merry ******* christmas to me i guess.

Get a VAG indie garage to confirm that the engine is a "gonner".

If salvageable, i.e. it cranks by hand, still has compression, etc. then ask the firm to contact UK firm KMB who supply an uprated oil pump that will not have this in-built TDi design fault.

You may have been lucky and caught the engine on switch off before any bad damage has occurred.
Or you may not. Depends what is in the sump as an indication.
Sump cover needs to come off anyway to get to the oil pump after draining engine oil.

Do NOT just change the oil pump shaft. The keyway will be well rounded off by now.

PM me your email address for return attach on the information I've saved as seen in the forums. Word .doc

I don't have a TDi but there are many experts in here that have been following this fault, and do have the same engine, have experience

Thanks for your post RichardSEL, the shop will drain the oil from the car tomorrow to see what is going on. Im guessing that the garage will deciede what is "too much" metal shavings.
I will ask them if the engine has compression. It does crank by using the ignition, but it dies, because of the oil pressure i assume.

How much is the new upgraded oil pump? How many hours does it take to change?

Magnus... Car MUST NOT be started, or tried to restart without oil pressure in this condition
You will only compound any damage already done
