    Hi all,

I have an 02 reg allroad that has developed a creaking / knocking which I believe to be worn control arm bushes. My intent is to overhaul the front suspension control arms with a control arm kit from ebay.

Will the kits listed for the Audi A6 (4B, C5) fit ok? having done a bit of searching Ive seen mention of 16mm and 20mm ball joints among other things and my heads starting to spin a bit!

Ive seen these and was basically just hoping for some guidance as to whether these would do the jod.

    # 20mm CONTROL ARMS SET Audi A4 A6 VW Passat B5 C5 4B 8D SUPERB WISHBONES KIT ## | eBay

Ive seen the warnings regarding cheap kits and I understand you get what you pay for... the car is high milage and showing its age and Im really just trying to nurse it along as economically as possible.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I have to say that having tried expensive ones and cheap in my 4.5yrs of ownership the wear is just as bad/good on both.

So if you are trying to do as cheap as possible buy cheap, one arm for my C6 that I paid £22 for is still going strong after 2yrs.

Just get a price and the part number from your friendly Audi dealer then do the search on ebay with the part number.

    Sorted!

Thanks MarkTM. This is the route I'll have to go. Was hoping to do the lot in one go, rather than a part here an a part there. Just a lil frustrating that there seem to be kits out there at a reasonable price... until you add the word 'allroad' !

Most of the time with vehicles over 5yrs the split pins between front and rear arms are VERY hard to removed, even after judicious amounts of Plusgas, so they will require heat to remove, which as we know ruins both rubbers. So a good idea your replacing all, are you DIY or will you pay a mechanic?

On my 20yr old profile pic car I replaced all of the bushes with polyurethane ones in 2010 and it's never been mentioned in a MOT since! Yep it was expensive, but as the results show it seems to have worked, and it's running on the original arms. Being a V8 it only weighs 100kg less than my A6 which has had 5 changes (all at the front) so makes me wonder if the bushes are made of chocolate!

Had intended on replacing the control arms myself. Having changed a suspension airbag on the front in the summer I know for a fact that my pinchbolts are seized, and I've already sheared one of them (typically I didn't even consider that I didn't have to remove them to change the bag until after). Will employ the services of my local mechanic with regards to getting both pinchbolts out...

With a little research Ive come across these part numbers for the lower control arms -
    ECP P/N : 615440195 Lemfoerder P/N : 1367301 OEM P/N : 4D0407151P

Can anyone confirm if i'm on the right track?

I did wonder whether it might be more viable replacing all the bushes.. something I might have to look into.

Years ago tried same myself. They are different although look very much the same, I found fitment issues. For lower arms you need ones that start with 4Z7, the genuine ones made by TRW...
There was a seller on ebay some time ago who had the right ones cheaper than dealer.

Cheers All-rod, have found what I needed, so far as I can see your correct the part numbers are :

4Z7407693D - Nearside Front Lower Rear
4Z7407694D - Offside Front Lower Rear

Have also found a reasonable priced seller on ebay for the TRW arms...
AUDI ALLROAD OEM ORIGINAL TRW FRONT N/S SUSPENSION ARM 4Z7407693D | eBay

One thing down on The List!
