hi there! im new to this website and audis in general. last week i bought my 1st audi its an a4 1.8 se 95N, i have to say over the pat week it has been a pleasure to drive far better than anything else i have owned. But the other day it developed a problem, my description might not be the best so try t stay with me(im not a mechanic)
on the instrument panel there is a light with an exclemation mark in brackets, when i start to accelerate the car beeps for about 10 secs and the warning light starts to flash, the revs seem to be a bit erratic and it has also cut out twice when i put the clutch in at a junction(the revs just seem to die).

my friend says these engines have problems with the coilpack and it might be that but is unsure.

also when i have my lights sometimes when i go to flick to high beam all the lights go outbut if i put back to low beam they work fine again(also when i flash my lights it works fine)

any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated.

    many thanks.

The instrument panel is telling you the car needs an interim service. You don't have to go to a dealer for a fault code read; any decent garage has a fault code reader these days and should charge you no more than about £25.

Hi, congrats on the new car!
The Audi dealer's labour charge is very pricey (over 100quid /hr when I last went about 4yrs ago!?) - totally not worth it in my opinion. I'd really recommend hunting down an independant Audi/VW specialist - much better value and service, and more than likely will use all the same tools, parts and had the same training (but without the corporate overhead and sale-rep company-cars to fund - Hmmm, hope that's not too much of a rant!?)
    Rgds,
    J
