£500! What do you have, a slave? VW say don't skim those heads as it removes the anti porosity coating but to do so you have to remove the injectors and valves.

not forgetting that you must replace the bolts for the cam shaft, injectors and rocker shaft as well as the injector seals. thats eating nearly 200 quids into your budget.

what if it needs skimmed ?? and is 500 too cheap ? thats what ive been quoted - between 500-600

injector seals. not the injectors. 25 quid each for genuine bosch seal kit, x 4 injectors, or there is a bloke in poland doing them for a tenner on ebay. all the bolts MUST be replaced unless you like stripping the threads in the ally head. some are 7nm then 180 degrees, silly torques like that.

to do it properly is double your quote. to lift the head and slide a new gasket in is about 500.

ive been quoted the following

300 labour
100 for skim and pressure test
60 oil and filter
50 for new gasket and stretch bolts
10 for anti freeze

does that not seem right ?

ive had the same guy do one on my 18t cupra and it was about the same price

plus injector seals, all the little bolts in the head, (4x injector bolts, 8x rockers shaft, 10x cam bolts). an elring gasket set is about 75 and the bolts 25, so 50 is a bit cheap. maybe thats just for a head gasket or a cheap head set ?? you did mention you have just replaced the timing belt so i presume he is re using it, as that would add a couple more to it with a water pump.

I will only fit a new head due to the skimming issue and injector bore wear.



A cheap BARE head costs £550 or £850 for top quality and using the original springs, keepers, cotters, injector blocks, inlet valves and injectors the rest would be

Cam kit £250 (with bearings)

Exhaust valves £42

Head set £70 (with head gasket and injector seals)

Head bolt set £20

Injector bolts £15

Rocker arm bolts £34

Rocker arm set £342 (with ball pins)

Whether you replace the rocker arms or not is your decision but if one takes a chunk out of the cam then the cams warranty is invalid

been and got the stuff my self to do it got the following -

4 x bosch injector seal kits - £10.50 ea
Victor reinz head bolts - £25
castrol edge 5W-30 c oil & mann filter

cam bolts, cam carrier bolts, injector bolts and rocker bolts cam in a t 70 uid from audi - not bad to be fair

also dont know what gasket im going to need untill the heads off

and yeah timing belt and water pump done 5 days ago so will be re used

thanks every one for all your advice im sure im going to get a decent job done now

ill report back when its all been done

stilll open to advice though if any one has got any more
