Hi, I have just joined the forum tonight after I purchased a 2007 Golf Mk5 GT 1.4 TSI DSG today for the wife. I carried out a test drive, checked with VAG tester for fault codes, checked receipts and all was good so I purchased the car and started off home.
I got nearly all the way home, about an hour and a half drive.
Suddenly I heard a rattling from under the bonnet as I stopped at traffic lights and the sound reverberated from the car next to me.
It has got louder and appears to be coming from down by the supercharger at the back of the engine.
After reading the TSI timing chain threads I have been getting worried....
It does sound like when a bearing is going.....grinding metal / rattle?

Or is this more likely the timing chain?

I have contacted the seller who has said the car sold as seen, but has agreed to speak further after I get a quote for what is wrong. Local VW independent thinks it is the supercharger has seized, but it has boost on dash upto 3000rpm?
I was thinking maybe the tensioner pulley bearings for the supercharger failing?
They had the alternator and turbo replaced so far in 2016 with receipts, plus the gasket on timing chain cover looks new...

My day has turned into a nightmare....

Any advice or previous experience would be gratefully received.

Thanks
