Agreed! Never have the local wash outfit touch my car. I would rather have it left dirty.

But aside from all that, given that I'm averaging 24mpg in a 3.0 diesel, your one is excellent and it's not even run in!

Absolutely... I looked at a friends 2 week old Tesla last weekend... loads of swirly lines in the paint courtesy of the "Polish car wash" and I mean the nationality, not trying to make it shiny.
They must just take a bucket full of gritty water from the previous car and apply liberally.

Interesting about the economy. I drove Guildford to Crewe and back yesterday. Motorway or dual carriageway all the way, ACC all the way, set to 80 or 85, depending on which road I was on. I got 26.2mpg over the 450 miles. 4-cylinder mode would cut in regularly but never for more than a few seconds or maybe a minute or two at best; the vast majority of the time it was running on all 8 cylinders. this behaviour is in line with other RS6 owners I have discussed this with.

Either the S-tronic box in the S6 is more suited to 4-cylinder mode or the controlling software has been improved since my car was made (early FL).

I would thing its actually down to software. The 4-cylinder mode kicks in all the time on mine. Obviously helps economy. In fact it kicks in even after driving only a couple of hundred metres on the street where I live, from cold! Seems to work.

Thanks! Not sure how can manage only 24mpg in a diesel?! My avg was 37 in my BiTdi.....lots of high speed runs and pretty much 90% was motorways.

My "local" Essex car wash is superb! Been using them for years and even have a reputation around here for doing it differently than the rest.....

Saying that, back in Germany I always do it in a brand new Shell or Aral (BP) car wash. Have no time to do it by hand very often and to top it of, all my cars are given paint protection from a pro once a year although the Audi is yet to be done (will be done in next two weeks).

Drove back to Cologne today and apart being forced to not only go through Brussels (due to ring being closed, accident) I also had to detour via Liege (again, accident)! Avg again, on motorway at 125km/h, was showing as 8.6 but once I entered Germany....well, free speed and all that (Aachen-Cologne)...I killed that avg in no time in fact, it used two pins on the fuel meter!! But that sound it makes from the sport exhaust does remind me a little bit of an airplane! Its addictive.....

Had the car paint protected (like all cars I’ve ever owned – renewed once a year) and was going to add vinyl on the front bumber and bonnet but the guy run our of vinyl so it will be done at a later stage. Pics by my detailer.
















Here’s a short vid I made which shows off the San Marino Blue quite nicely in the sunlight.


Bonus - showing my record mpg while in the UK (sticking to the speed limits) - 8.6l = 33mpg, pls note the pathetic mileage so far when pic taken!


Kind of amazing that a 450bhp car can manage that kind of mpg. My 2015 Mustang GT which not only weight 400 kgs less and has no Quattro (my toy!) only manages 13.5-14l (20-21mpg) on any regular drive although my best so far with that one was 10.9l = 26mpg!

Just a small update....now done over 3000 miles in the new S6 (been twice to the UK already) and the car is simply getting better and better as the mls are piling on. Avg mpg since new around the 26mpg mark. Absolutely acceptable and will improve as more mls are added. Have a trip to Sweden coming up in June which I am looking forward to, although that one is bound to kill the mpg as most of the trip are on unrestricted autobahn (A61). Probably will have to fill up 2-3 times (the BiTdi could make the whole journey one one tank if driven nicely).

The wheels does NOT like the EuroTunnel.......

the comment on the color is amazing. Have people walking up just to say something. Reckon I have made the right choice, although a friend reckons the black was nicer!

Drove to Sweden in the beautiful weather although had to go to Hamburg too, so business with pleasure

500 mls all in and only had to fill up once!! Seriously though, only used a tank and a bit for the while trip.

Having got Germany behind me, here's how a typical Danish motorway looks like...empty! Actually, they do look the same in Sweden too and just as empty!

Oh yes....(an actual border control was made in Denmark while deboarding the boat and on the Swedish side of the bridge).
