    Hey guys,
just got myself into a 99 A4 2.8, had it a week. picked it up about 1500km away and drove it back. No troubles whatsoever. parked it for two days in the garage and there was a small amount of oil (few drops) so put it up on the hoist and you could see oil drops just above the exhaust converters at the back end of the transmission...anything? I keep hearing about oil pan leaks, I see nothing from there and its a ways back. upper oil pan leaks, does this pertain to the 2.8?...Taking the car into the shop next week, have a certified tech have a look...

That engine is known to have oil leaking from hydraulic actuators on casmshafts. They have small gaskets that fail an cause the leak.

well, the gaskets are not expensive but in order to change them you have to take timing belt off.
