I have a Mk4 GT TDi Golf. I noticed a small oil leak just inboard from the front of the drivers side front wheel. VW said that it was a leak from the intercooler hose and replaced the seals. This didn't cure the leak and now they say that it is a regular problem and may not be solveable. They said that they could try replacing the bottom hose and cleaning the intercooler but couldn't guarantee stopping the leak. Has anyone had a similar experience and did anyone find a solution?

Hi there. I've just had the same problem on my mkIV gt tdi 1998, and the car is currently in the garage waiting to be inspected. The mechanic at Nationwide said that he thought it was a problem with the turbo, but it sounds a bit vague to me. Did you finally manage to solve the problem? If so could you let me know what the problem was and where?
    Thanks.

I didn't get the problem solved. As there was no guarantee that by changing parts they would be able to fix the problem I didn't bother getting it done. It was only a small oil leak, like one or two drips after the car was parked.
Eventually I traded it in for a Passat. Hope you get it fixed OK and it doesn't cost the earth.
    Cheers
    Steve
