Hi, my car is with the local dealer with what I thought was a misfire, but I've spoken to them today and been told that there is low compression on all six cylinders.
As the car has less than 700 miles and only a few weeks old, I wondered what everyone's view on my rights etc are.
The dealer is waiting for more information from the factory in Germany, before coming up with a solution. But the chap I spoke to thought the engine damage was catastrophic, but couldn't/wouldn't elaborate.
As you can imagine, I'm seriously fed up!!

I would be inclined to reject the car.

Many thanks for the response and link. Think I will have to wait until the garage come back with a plan of attack, then decide which way to go.
Very frustrating situation to be in.

You can reject the car, of that there's no doubt. But if you haggle, get a similar or better loaner during the repair and a few extra's thrown in, then have a good think about what is best.. Not to mention finding or waiting for another car to be built of same spec --- Just saying ...

Agree about rejecting the car. Before you do that make sure that every communication you have with the dealer is documented. If it is a conversation on the phone or in person then follow it up afterwards with an email confirming what was said and agreed.

I'd be reluctant to accept any proposal that involves "fixing" the existing engine. Something patently went wrong in it's construction and while the low compression is the obvious symptom and potentially fixable you really do not know what else is amiss that could come back to bite you in the future. A new engine is a possibility but "how quickly?" and "What do I do for a car in the meantime?" are obvious questions.

Cheers for all your replies, I have spoken to the dealer I bought the car from as well as the local one that the car is with for investigation/repair.
They have taken the sump off and found metal in it. The next step is to strip the engine down to see what is wrong and look at the most economical solution. The local dealer thinks that will definitely be a new engine.
The car will be repaired under warranty regardless of whether I reject it or not, so I need to speak to the supplying dealer sales manager and dealer principle to see what happens from there.
The Audi factory Germany issues all the instructions of investigation as the car is so new. It has said that there are no known issues with the engine.
Will keep you posted with any developments.

I did something similar to this. Mine was less catastrophic though. I eventually got a new car at cost price and with the finance contributions. Audi uk also contributed towards the new car as well.
Put it simply I replaced my ultra with a 272 but on paper it looks like I traded it in.
They don't like rejections. There must be some stats that come up somewhere.
Try and work with them. Let the finance company know as well as they have a vested interest too.
Don't let them away with a free service or anything cheap.

I'd probably be a bit more pushy than you are at this stage.
    1) You will reject the car if an engine repair is proposed and elect for a new vehicle. There really are too many unknowns in this path IMO. Unless they are going to completely strip and rebuild then how do they (you) know that something was not missed?
    2) You will accept a new engine - and evidence that the VIN number was changed and re-registered OR a new vehicle ASAP and an equivalent or better vehicle to use in the intervening period.

This really is not your problem.
Completely understand that Audi Germany wants to get to the bottom of what happened but that is no excuse for prevaricating on sorting you out with a loaner and a tangible timeline on when you will be sitting in your own vehicle.
