When I start my polo the lights automatically come on even though the switch is set to "0". I've been told this is the daylight running lights but when the switch is on "0" it is the same as if the switch was on the dipped headlight beam symbol thing. How do I turn off DRL? I want no lights on when the switch is set to "0". I've tried the whole put indicator to the left and pull the indicator stick bit towards me and turn the key and wait 5 seconds to turn off DLR but it didn't work.

The short answer is you don't. If your car came with DRLs then "everyone" should expect it to have them and for them to be working, "everyone" means Police, MOT testers and so on. The law changed at one stage (around 2012 I think), maybe someone else will know when but from then on it said new cars need to be fitted with DRLs. Prior to this some were and some not and those that were had ways of switching them of,f if the owner didn't like them, your government has now removed these priviledges and owning your vehicle gives you no rights to decide what it has or doesn't, welcome to 21st century motoring, you nearly got me started there

Thank you for getting back to me. This is my first proper car so im sorry if i sound like a noob. i previously drove an old Corsa which didn't include any modern features. I don't have a particular problem with the DRLs but are they supposed to be the same as the dipped headlight setting and also are they meant to adjust according to the amount of daylight or do they just stay the same brightness all the time? sorry for the noob questions

they come on when you start the car and only go off if you turn the main lights on. they dont do anything else, they are just daytime running lights. learn to love them, one day they might just save your life.
