    Hi,
My 2008 B6 2.0TDi Sport Estate (BKP) has developed a tappety rattle on the top left hand side of the head. It hasn't lost any power neither has any lights appeared. I've had it scanned and there are no fault codes. Also when started from cold there is white smoke from the exhaust and the engine starts hunting, once it's warmed up it all settles down except the noise.
Anybody got any ideas?? It runs too well for it to be a valve, I'm thinking maybe injector? But the lack of fault codes has thrown me.

    Thanks in advance.

That sound give the impression of an injector and that the noise is diesel knock rather than mechanical. The injectors used in that engine became notorious and were the subject of a recall, do you know if this was done?

    Hi Crasher,
Yes the injectors were replaced in 2011 as part of a recall. Spookily I made sure of that before I bought it 😡.

At five years old it is not inconceivable one is faulty, some deep analysis of the measuring blocks would be the first step.

    Hi again all,

Firstly, thanks Crasher for you last reply.

Story so far, I've had the injectors removed and tested, 3 came back as failed . I've now replaced all 4 at great expense. I have not seen the car since due to work commitments, however I am told it is still smoking and smelling of diesel when cold?? The garage said it is probably just excess diesel in the engine and DPF (which it hasn't got ) and it would burn off. The oil and filter have been changed and I've been told to do it again after a 1000 miles. It also still sounds a bit tappety.
Does this sound normal or is there likely going to be something else wrong??
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Where did the injectors come from? Did they fit new adjuster screws and ball studs then set the rocker arm stroke at maximum lift?

Maybe they weren't actually replaced. I imagine a part number check would confirm this.

Crasher, I'll have to ask the garage but I didn't see the screws on the bill. Is this part of the change procedure? Is it a key stage?

They were definitely replaced as my father still had the old ones when he picked the car up.

    Cheers for the replies both.
