    Hi all,

Just thought I'd post a quick question regarding acceleration hesitation/Loss of Power for my 2.7 A6. Recently I have been experiencing hesitation when accelerating from a standstill (junctions/roundabouts) like it will go forward then almost pause for 1-2 seconds before launching forward.

It has caused a few sketchy situations when trying to get out into a gap, but only happens like every other junction. Also when driving the car after this it seems perfectly fine. I have gone through S mode and D Manual and acceleration is as you would expect, plenty of oomph.

However this morning I started up the car ready to go to work and within 2 seconds it cut out dead. Started it up again and no issues until I turned right in one of the hills around my house, which suddenly the car juddered, had loss of power and struggled to move.
Then as quick as it happened it was fine.....I then carried onto work with no issues whatsoever.

I turned off the car and started it again a couple of times when I parked up and it did it first time no problem. I have found that driving in D can be a bit sluggish sometimes as the gears seem to shift low down in the RPM but I beginning to think that a major issue is developing.

As per usual I have done vast research across this forum and many others but the recurring theme was that this is normal for the A6, A4, VW Jetta, Toureg ect and that its just something to live with.

I wouldn't have been concerned so much as it runs fine apart from the occasional acceleration lag, but after todays cut out and juddering I thinking there's more to the issue.

Has anyone experienced the same? or found a solution?

P.S I don't have access to VAG-COM so haven't been able to check for any codes yet, so anyone in the Sutton Coldfield/Birmingham area who is willing to spare some time to help would be greatly appreciated.

P.P.S I don't have immediate access to any reliable garage friends to help so only option atm is to go to Audi and I definitely don't have that sort of £££.

    Thanks in advance.

    Lee

Any VCDS help requests should be posted here:

As to any specialist in the Birmingham area this thread may be useful:

Recommend a VW specialist in Birmingham?

The search facility on here is quite good

Oh, it would be useful if you could give the year/gearbox and if quattro or not?

Bad news, started off home today and car started fine drove down the road to a junction and went to pull out.

As I accelerated the car hesitated then cut out dead. Had to roll across the junction and stop just As I got the other side.
People were not happy. Managed to start the car again and has been ok apart from slight hesitation when accelerating from 1st.

Think I'll be trying to get it booked in asap.

I was thinking maybe it was the battery but I've read numerous other possible causes such as egr valve, maf sensor, temperature sensor, air filter, fuel filter/pump.

    You get the idea.

Just thought I'd provide an update.

    Without a scan it's a coin toss.

I would say fuel system as opposed to anything else.

BTW multichronics need a fluid and filter change every 40k miles, is their evidence yours has had these?

I don't have an A6 (yet!) but the symptoms you describe made me think of a dodgy ECU relay which on a Golf is called Relay 109. This can cause the car to stall. The other thing I thought of was the fuel tank lift pump. Again, from Golf experience, when the ignition key is turned (before the position to start the car), you should hear a soft whirring of the pump for a second or so to prime/pressurise the fuel system. Finally, could it be something as lame as a lose fuse? Check all fuses to ensure they're sound and seated properly. A scan might well point you straight to the problem. A poorly performing battery can cause all sorts of woes, but you can get an idea of its state from the MMI, IIRC.

you could go back to basics and do the fuel & air filter to rule them out ...................... I do mine every 20,000 as there is no drain now for water, meaning its likely to freeze in winter

then go for the transmission oil if no improvement

Ill think ill start with the fuel and air filter then go from there.

I was thinking while im rooting around in the engine bay I may take a look at the throttle body and EGR valve.

As an update for today my car ran absolutely fine, no start-up issues, no hesitation when accelerating ect. So whatever the issue it seems to be intermittent

I doubt its a filter issue.
Get a proper scan done, but sounds like the fuel tank pump to me.
