    Hi
I've recently sold my audi allroad and now got a 2007 passat 2.0tdi 92k.

I found that the car is very sluggish and lack of power especially in 1st gear, I usually need to rev pretty high prior to releasing the clutch to get moving or otherwise I'd end up stalling it.
This is definitely not normal, so would be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction.

I have done a scan and no faults found.

    Thanks

What have you done your scan with? Many of the cheeep hand held scanners don't show the detail of what's being reported from VAG cars' diagnostics. Better you get a VCDS Autoscan and post here?

From what you're saying you find it impossible to inch forward on the clutch with revs at idle? What happens once car is moving? Does car travel with normal gear changes after? What happens in reverse?

    Hi Richard

    Thanks for the reply!

i'm using the Delphi 150E scanner, i can take it to my local garage to get it scanned too.

Yes its very difficult to inch forward at idle, if i try the car will shudder and stall, and when the car is moving and i put my foot down it will pull but very slowly like its lack of torque/power or turbo not kicking in as it should.
In reverse its the same as trying to pull off in first, i have stalled it many times when i forget to rev high.

i have been thinking the flywheel is the culprit for the shuddering when pulling away, but doesn't explain the lack of power.

previous to my audi all road i had the passat b5.5 130bhp and that pulled like a train, pulls much quicker than my passat

    Thanks

MY 2006 A6 is like this and took a bit of getting used to as I was stalling all over the place until I got used to it

Sometimes after towing with my car, I have to treat the clutch very gently for a day or so to get rid of my judder and then it clears. Sometimes I don't have to do anything after towing and its fine

Some times its just juddery without towing or abusing the car, but driving as silky as I can clears it

Your car might be the same

    Hi Niall

yeah it sounds like your having the same problems, i have found a few other post with same problems but mostly audi's.
if this problem is normal for this engine not sure if i'll ever get use to it as i have 5 cars in the house and i use them all, even the wifes Pug 308 1.6hdi much easier to drive than this and i hate that car.
the rate this is going i dont think i'll have much clutch left. hard to get the right balance fuel & clutch and if you get it wrong you've stalled in the middle of the roundabout.

yeah its a heavy clutch ok, with a high biting point

is it because its a diesel and you are thinking your revving higher than you think you are ?

Don't be put of by the noise, I will try and see tomorrow how much revs I use to take off in 1st

One thing I thought of, have you got a dragging brake ? I was wondering if you have an electronic hand brake ? If so go for a spin of say 5 miles, then feel the rear wheels where the wheel nuts are. If you feel the audi centre cap you shouldn't feel any real heat, but if if you feel the wheel at the nuts are they hot ?

The rears will feel slightly hotter than the front, just a small amount more; you will be able to tell what I am talking about

Why buy a car that was so sluggish? Didn't you test drive it?
Ive driven plenty of 2.0 Tdis never had one feel sluggish, or a heavy clutch-unless it needed replacing.

I've checked the brakes and yes its the electronic brake, its the first thing i suspected when i got the car, but it turns freely.

i've been driving diesels for over 20 years so i have a bit of understanding on diesels, reading some of the other post the 2.0tdi is nowhere near as good as the older 1.9tdi which i had a few years back.

as mentioned in the above post i'll pop into the local garage who has the ross tech vcd scanner, and get it checked out.

Also i do think i have an issue with the clutch and flywheel as it judders in 1st & reverse on lower revs, but dont notice when i rev high (above 2500rpm).

when you test drive a car you go around the block or to the end of the road and back, its not likely you'll rally it up and down the street and around the dual carriageway.

From my experience it depends how much you're spending, the seller, and the car. I've sold cars, they're turned up given the cash and I've handed over the keys. They haven't even popped the bonnet!
