My new 1.8 t 20 v 00 plate

Hi there im new to the site. I have just sold my wifes old 96 passat estate and swapped for a w reg 1.8 20 v t estate. lovely car BUT. I have a fault with the mpg display in the middle of the dash. It flickers and goes out while driving or with just the engine running. If it does go out then it will not come back on untill i turn off the ignition and start her back up again.

Is this a common fault?? Has any one come across this.

One other question i have is that she has a flat spot when wanting to give it some. Been well looked after and serviced well.

Any help would be grate full.

Do you mean it goes from values to (--) or actually flickers.

The stalk changes the mode it displays.

It doesnt matter what value it displays. What ever display is showing. The whole mini screen flickers. You can see the lights in it when driving at night getting brighter and dimmer. Then more often just goes out. And will not display again until i have turned the ignition off and then on again.

It could be a bad earth.
