Evening all, I have an issue with my 53 plate touran 1.9tdi. The first half of the clutch pedal press does nothing and only engages at the bottom half, I have no clutch slip but the bite is right at the bottom, sometimes the pedal does stick at the halfway point and looking down at the master cyclinder on the pedal it looks like (hoping) this is to blame. Am I barking up the wrong tree and really it is the clutch gone? If it is the master cyclinder how are they changed?

try bleeding it first. you've got master cylinder and slave cylinder. im not sure how to test them, i believe when they fail, it starts leaking.

So, I've changed the master cyclinder for a new one. Bled it, and bled it again but still there's no pressure there till the pedal is half way down, this is what is stopping the pedal from coming back up. I'm assuming it probably the release bearing worn and has play in it? I can hear a slight change in noise when I press the clutch too

So just to update this for anyone searching, the fault was actually the slave cylinder. Didn't even think about that until I'd purchased a flywheel and clutch and was mid way through stripping. The boot of the slave had perished completely thus allowing dust on the shaft and stopping the slave cylinder moving freely!
