I bought my car with basic audio, spent my money on other goodies. I was planning to swop the speaker anyway, as usual the factory speakers are just some plastic thingy. I looked at the speakers, and here is some basic info on them:

Front tweeter: 8ohm, 38mm dia and decent magnet size. It has a 10.7μF capacitor as crossover, 6db/1.9kHz crossover frequency.
    Front mid/bass: 4ohm, 8" size
Rear tweeter: I have no info
    Rear mid/bass: 4ohm, 6.5" size

After looking at the front tweeter, I decided that I probably live with it. It was big and looked nice. On otherhand the two mid/bass speakers were just plastic construction with small magnets, thus they got swopped.

I bought used speakers from ebay, took them apart and glued the new speakers (Audison) in it with silicon based glue and added some foam surround to it. After taking the door card down, it is easy two swop the speakers. See pictures of the original speakers, the plastic body and the finished items below:

Has anyone added a dedicated amp to power the replaced sub in a 2017 q7?

want to replace the bose sub with a jl audio 8w1 or 8w3. Would like to drive it with a dedicated amp

wondeing if folks have tips on the pwr/gnd hookup and where they tapped a 12v source (or if they did)

Hi Wolek, I just got my q7 2017 last week with basic sound system. The bass really is bad and I am thinking of doing what you did with the subwoofer. I have looked around on amazon and was able to find a few good shallow mount 6.5 and 8 inch subwoofers. Can you please tell me how much depth is available and if you have any recommendations on the sub.... JBl/ JL audio / kicker/ earthquake sws/ etc.... thanks in advance

    Hi Skhan
    Congrats on the new arrival...
It's been almost a year since I've done the mod... so I do not remember exactly.
But it'll take you 5 minutes tops to measure yourself.
All you need to do is unscrew 4 (or six?) philips screws that hold the speaker and that's it. You can measure the depth directly....
With hindsight, I would have gone with 6.5 inch now. But if you dont mind trimming the box a bit, 8 inch is max that will fit.
As for the make, I am not that much of a connoisseur to tell the difference.
As long as you can match the electrical parameters anything branded will do a better job than the OEM thingy thats there...
    good luck

I am in the process doing this. I will install a 6.5" speaker, hopefully this week. The max depth is only 51mm, as the bottom of the box is curving upwards at the back (spare tire side), thus the box is very shallow. If you can wait, I will post with photo when I am done. The plan is to add a MDF ring and make it that it fits exactly as the original speaker (no cutting the box).

Thanks anemeth, that seems very shallow just 55 cm!! I already ordered the JL audio 6.5" sub which has a mounting depth of 108 mm. I also ordered a pair of .5 inch spacers which might still leave me short of about 32 mm. Will wait to see your pictures of the installation. Just curious what sub did you buy?
