You do realise that it is possibly this that is causing the problem don't you? It always pays to check the basics. The rotor arm will need to be broken off, I remove the dizzy (sometimes a nightmare in itself as it gets corroded in) and crush the rotor in a vice. If you remove the dizzy, it will need to be set up again in measuring blocks 08 so you will need VAG-COM or something like it.

Yes I do realise that, I'm hoping that this is the prob. I stand a chance of fixing it then?

Crushing ing it in a vice sounds like a safe way to remove it! Vagcom sounds a bit more tricky....

    ThankQ!

Taking the dizzy out could give you problems so crush the rotor in position using some mole grips. Cover the internals of the dizzy with a cloth to stop bits dropping inside.

    There are two types of dizzy used, Bosch or Sagem. The part numbers for Bosch are (cap) 051 905 207 £12.04 and (rotor) 052 905 225 C £9.40 and for Sagem (cap) 026 905 207 A £10.58 and (rotor) 026 905 225K £11.16.

You really are the most fella(?), top posting!

I used a pipe wrench to nibble off the ends of the rotor arm. Then used a nut splitter that I bought about 300yrs ago and dont think I have ever used until now! That'll be the easiest job that'll have to do!
